Position Overview

  • Lead the color management activities on behalf of Ralph Lauren Brands on all products. This includes managing the color library and processes, driving the color approval process and standards internally within all areas of the business to get alignment on color quality.
  • Utilize technical knowledge related to color accuracy, consistency and color approval processes while working closely with fabric R&D and merchandising team, and to understand the creative vision of each project and deliver bulk as per requirements.
  • Work cross-functionally to establish color standards to meet team/program requirements and manage color optimization to avoid SKU proliferation.
  • Prioritize color approval management to meet development calendar timelines and on-time delivery in conjunction with NY Product Development, Sourcing & regional hubs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and maintain color standards and tools to communicate color development to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure consistent color standards and integrity across fabrics and products internally & globally. Facilitate color customization efforts when needed. 
  • Collaborate with fabric R&D, NY Product Development, Sourcing, Quality & regional sourcing hubs to establish standards and meet calendar deadlines SMS through production.
  • Communicate to all suppliers our color standards, approval process and our expectations.
  • Enable speed in the production approval process, seeking efficiency and time savings opportunity, inclusive of implementing new technology to advance the brand’s color process.
  • Provide input/solution to fabric R&D, NY Product Development, Sourcing, Quality & regional sourcing hubs in solving color issue when needed.
  • Create, organize, and maintain complete and accurate color library.
  • Maintain and update the color manual as and when required.
  • Maintain equipment within the color lab; spectrophotometer and light box, including daily and monthly calibration exercises. Implement color lab software upgrades and administers annual correlation tests with selected vendors.
  • Develop and manage KPI’s to evaluate performance of all strategic Raw Materials suppliers.
  • Provide input to global Raw Materials sourcing strategy, and global sustainability team on driving company’s chemical management goals.
  • Keep updated on new chemical, dyestuff and coloring method in the market to enhance color fastness, color reproduction accuracy.
  • Provides training and support to internal and external stakeholders in relations to RL color standards, process and quality requirements.

Experience, Skills & Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Textiles, Chemistry or relevant disciplines.
  • 10+ years of experience in the Textile industry with strong understanding of fabric substrates, knowledge of color/dying process.  Knowledge on leather is a plus.
  • Proven experience from buying office, factory or fabric dyes company is preferred
  • Must score superior on Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Color Test.
  • Must be able to identify issues and analyze relevant data to determine course of action and generate solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; Good team player.
  • Work in fast-paced, constantly changing, and deadline-process-driven environment with extremely time-sensitive procedures.
  • Understanding of Quality Control in relations to color.
  • Domestic and International travel as required including visits to Distribution Centers and Sourcing hubs as needed.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, assertive and organized; meticulous and with strong follow up skills, able to work under tight timeline.
  • Demonstrates a “can-do” approach in being proactive with work assignments.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite including Power Point, Excel and Visio; knowledge in PLM is a plus.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English; Good command of spoken Chinese - Cantonese and Mandarin, is preferable
