Pro Ralph Laurena byl obchod vždy vyjádřením snu a životního stylu – promítnutím celkového „vzhledu a image“. Od samého začátku Ralph věřil, že jeho kolekce musí žít ve svém vlastním světě, takže v roce 1969 vytvořil úplně první koncept "obchodu v obchodě" – samostatnou prodejnu Polo, která byla umístěna v obchodním domě Bloomingdale's v New York City.
