Position Overview
The Customs Classification Analyst whose primary function will be to determine and assign Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes for the Company’s variety of product, specifically apparel, footwear, related accessories and home lifestyle. The Customs Classification Analyst is a member of the Trade Compliance Team which is responsible for providing technical support on all issues related to import and export clearance supporting the Company’s global trade compliance initiatives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- · Perform analysis and document product specifications, technical files and product samples, as well as legal documentation to determine Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification of products using the General Rules of Interpretation and all other applicable rules and regulations;
- · Provide direction and identify relevant Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements and preferential trade program qualification, as applicable;
- · Develop and maintain global database of HTS classifications, including thorough documentation to ensure company adherence with Customs rules and regulations and to demonstrate reasonable care with documented audit trail and rationale for classification determinations;
- · Partner with Product Development, Production and Sourcing teams to determine appropriate tariff rates and explore potential tariff engineering opportunities, where applicable;
- · Contribute to training and reference materials that support business and compliance requirements;
- · Monitor and keep current with changes in regulations that may impact HTS classification, relevant trade compliance laws and regulations, including researching binding rulings;
- · Manage a diverse workload which may include changes in priorities;
- Share knowledge with key business partners and appropriate teams;
Experience, Skills & Knowledge
- · Bachelor’s degree in Customs Administration and International Trade, a plus but not required;
- · At least 3 years of direct experience in HTS Classification including textiles and apparel, footwear, related accessories and home lifestyle products, with demonstrated ability to interpret and apply customs rulings, HTS chapter and explanatory notes;
- · Must be able to work with the Product Development Team to interpret appropriate HTS, based on technical evaluation of products;
- · Must be a self-starter with the ability to collaborate and work in a team environment;
- · Capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing with strong time management and organization skills;
- · Highly organized with proven ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment;
- · Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- · Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills;
