Position Overview

The Sr. Engineer iSeries, performs as Level-2 talent reporting directly to Manager, Infrastructure Delivery, This role requires operating

AS400/iSeries/Powerx systems and their peripherals, includes local and remote printers, input/output devices and consoles. Assists

the user community with any questions or problems pertaining to system status. Operates all such systems within the Data Center and

DR site, monitors the status of all systems and modifies status jobs within the system, performing system backups and recovery

Additionally, this position is responsible for overall health, data integrity and operational efficiency for all aspects of enterprise systems.

Relies on extensive IT experience and sound judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

· IBMi (i5/OS & OS/400) Operating System Support.

· Strong knowledge on IBMi Work Management.

· iSeries H/W & S/W configuration, installation, maintenance, PTF/APAR management, printer configuration and support.

· Execution of general scheduled administrative activities – including but not limited to system start-up, IPL.

· Backup and Recovery management using BRMS.

· Experience with VTL concepts.

· Expert Knowledge/experience with Third party products (including automation solutions, installation, configuration,

maintenance, and daily monitoring).

· APAR management of the High Availability (HA) products.

· IBMi Security Management.

· Performance management and knowledge on Performance tools like PE or iDoctor.

· DASD management and experience in supporting systems with external SAN storage.

· Experience with EMC SAN storage on iSeries and knowledge on SRDF/Timefinder tools.

· Experience with iSeries Job Schedulers - Robot, IBM Advanced Job Scheduler (IJS) and the Native Job Scheduler

(WRKJOBSCDE).

· OS Upgrades from one version to another

· IBM supported network architecture - TCP/IP, SNA - and Network Configuration Management for iSeries.

· Hardware and software resources management. 

· LPAR/HMC management 

· Experience in doing LPM on Power systems. 

· Knowledge on VIOS. 

· CL programming and SQL/Query 400. 

· Administration of user accounts and groups – including but not limited to account creation, assignment, renewal, access/system rights, account profile setting, password reset 

· Perform vendor management for IBM supported products. 

· Problem and Change Management process knowledge. 

· DB2 support for SAP applications on iSeries is an added advantage.

Experience, Skills & Knowledge

· Extremely familiar with IBMi operating system

· PTF Management. Installing and applying PTFs (- Installing patches and fixes )

· Backup and Restoration thorough BRMS

· Knowledge of LPAR/HMC technology.

· Knowledge on system performance planning

· Strong knowledge on Robot, MIMIX, IPL, HMC Concepts.

· Managing incidents on IBMi related issues

· System IPL issues

· Knowledge/experience performing High Availability (HA) role Swaps.

· Ability to manage unscheduled outage.

· Knowledge of PCI and SOX Compliance.

· Problem management - providing permanent fixes for recurring issues

· Job performance analysis reports

· Handle system change requests

· Performance and Capacity Management process/tool knowledge.
